The Canonization of Blessed Carlo Acutis and Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati

September 3 – 9, 2025 | $2990, land-only

***UPDATE*** ProRome was able to secure enough space for an additional traveler group of 20-25 people to join. A minimum of 20 participants must register NO LATER THAN THURSDAY, JULY 24 AT 11:59PM in order for this additional traveler group to be accommodated. Register now and hold your place. ProRome will not bill you the total amount due until Friday, July 25, when the viability of this additional traveler group’s participation is confirmed.

This pilgrimage is special in so many ways. First, it takes place during the Jubilee of 2025, a year of special grace and renewal. Second, it features the canonization Mass of Blessed Carlo Acutis and Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati with the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV! And last but not least our very own shepherds – Archbishop Pérez and the Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia, Bishop Chylinski, will be joining us and celebrating Mass along the way.

The program includes two nights in Assisi and three nights in Rome in centrally-located and beautiful four-star hotels. The trip cost is $2990 land-only and includes everything except daily lunch and travel insurance. Group airfare is no longer available through ProRome, however the airline still has space on the same itinerary and we invite you to book the same flights as the group (see below section on airfare).

This trip is filling quickly so register today!

Land Only: $2990 per person

Two Extraordinary Young Men, Two Saints of Our Age

Blessed Carlo Acutis is an example for the ages and will soon be our first millennial saint. Without fear he gave his life to God, even while fighting cancer. He said “I offer all the suffering I will have to suffer for the Lord, for the Pope, and the Church.” His greatest joy was the Eucharist, and he dedicated his life to sharing the truth of the Real Presence with those around him and throughout the world. As we live through history, it is saints like Carlo who inspire and remind us of our true purpose.

Despite coming from a wealthy family, Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati chose to live a life of service, dedicating himself to helping the poorest and most destitute in the industrial city of Turin, Italy. Diagnosed with polio at 24, he accepted his suffering with courage and deep faith in God. An avid mountaineer and athlete, Frassati’s latest miracle was the healing of an American seminarian who tore his achilles tendon playing basketball. His prayers to God were answered, and he will answer ours.

Pilgrimage Highlights

Panoramic view of Assisi. Umbria.
Two Days
Assisi

Assisi reminds us of another world; the beauty of this place is unmatched. Yet it also reminds us that we are in this world and have been called to convert it to God. It was here that two holy saints left it all behind to serve God. Journey with us to the hometown of St. Francis and St. Clare!

Three Days
Rome

Once every 25 years, the Catholic Church calls us to renew our lives and make a pilgrimage to Rome. In return, we are given graces beyond our wildest imaginations. Leave your old self behind and walk boldly with us through the Holy Doors of Rome, renewing your lives and rededicating them to God.

Carlo & Frassati
Canonization

Our world is facing an identity crisis – a great loss of faith in God. Blessed Carlo Acutis and Blessed Pier Giorgi Frassati remind us that it is in God alone that we are free. Despite great suffering, they persevered until the end. Their reward is sainthood, and we are going to Rome to celebrate with them!

Joining the Sheep
Our Shepherd

In our modern world, the opportunity to experience something so intimate as a pilgrimage is rare. Even rarer is to go on pilgrimage with the shepherd of the flock – the Archbishop! We are forever grateful to His Excellency Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez for leading us on this great venture in the Faith.

The Holy Year of Jubilee: Origins, History, and What it Means Today

On Christmas Eve, 2024, the Holy Father, Pope Francis, will open the Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica, marking the beginning  of the 2025 Holy Year of Jubilee, which will last until the Feast of Epiphany on January 6th, 2026. The Jubilee is a holy season in Catholic life when the infinite mercy of God and His Church are brought to the fore through the remission of sin and the granting of plenary indulgences to those who make a special pilgrimage to Rome. Many might fondly recall Pope Francis’ Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy in 2015, or even Pope Saint John Paul II’s Great Jubilee of 2000. But what is the Jubilee, and what are its origins? A better understanding of this ancient tradition will better equip us to treat the impending celebration with the solemnity and piety it deserves.

The term ‘jubilee’ is derived from the Hebrew יובל (yobel), referring to the horn of a ram. This is because, in ancient Israel, the season was declared by a blast from the shofar, an instrument made from the ram’s horn. It first appears in Leviticus 25:8-13, described as a time in which all slaves are to be freed and every debt forgiven:

And thou shalt sanctify the fiftieth year, and shalt proclaim remission to all the inhabitants of thy land: for it is the year of jubilee. Every man shall return to his possession, and every one shall go back to his former family: because it is the jubilee and the fiftieth year.

The Jubilee, as celebrated today, builds on this premise, stemming back to the later Middle Ages. The first Jubilee as we know it today was declared in 1300 by Pope Boniface VIII, in which he granted a plenary indulgence—the remission of the temporal punishment merited by our sins, even after they have been forgiven—to those who made a pilgrimage to Rome and visited the Basilicas of St. Peter and St. Paul. Similar Jubilee celebrations have been held at least every fifty years since, with plenary indulgences granted to those who make a good confession and take communion at the four Papal Basilicas: St. John Lateran, St. Peter’s, St. Paul Outside the Walls, and St. Mary Major.

To celebrate the Holy Year of Jubilee, then, with a pilgrimage to Rome is to participate in a vital aspect of Catholic life, and to take advantage of an extraordinary opportunity to experience firsthand the breadth of God’s extraordinary mercy. It is a great spiritual gift, moreover, to walk the streets of Rome, to venerate the relics of Christ’s Saints, and to enter into communion with the universal church in the city that she calls home. If there were ever a time to take the plunge and go on a pilgrimage, the 2025 Holy Year of Jubilee is the time to do it.

The official currency of Italy is the Euro.  1 euro is roughly $1.07 (as of June 14, 2024). Credit cards are accepted in shops and restaurants. You should always carry some cash on you for small purchases such as postcards, gelato or a refreshing drink.

Budgeting and Shopping

The following budget guidelines are just approximate values or starting values for meals and are per person. Actual prices will vary widely by restaurant and city within a country but below are some averages as provided by our experienced personnel.

  • The approximate cost of a soft drink/mineral water/coffee is €3-5.
  • An average lunch consisting of a salad or sandwich and a soda or water starts at approximately €15.
  • Dinner at a mid-range restaurant starts at approximately €30.

Please note that soft drinks and mineral water are often as expensive, if not more expensive than wine or beer. Sales tax or VAT (value added tax) is included on price tags. To obtain VAT refunds (which may take up to three months to process), special forms usually have to be stamped by Customs; please ask for a tax-free shopping form with each purchase and follow the instructions for completion. Customs import charges on items shipped home are not included in purchase prices.

Electrical Outlets

Italy runs on 220V. Like the rest of Europe, the plugs are two round prongs. If you have a cell phone, you will need to bring an adapter for the plugs. Here is a link to one on Amazon for less than $10.00

Crisis Management

The following scenarios are typical “crisis” situations that may occur while on tour Italy and how to best prevent and manage them. Please read. If you would like to read our full plan please download it here: https://prorometours.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/ProRome-Crisis-Management-Plan-.pdf

You Get Lost

This is not a common occurrence. First of all, stay put. Most folks who get really lost do so by running in the wrong direction! Your tour manager will find you if you stay put. If you have a cell phone, please call your tour manager, or any other group member you may be in contact with. If you cannot dial “+” on your phone, dial “00” followed by “1”, followed by the number. If after 30 minutes you are unable to reach your tour manager and cannot find the group, proceed to the nearest Taxi stand and have a cab take you back to the hotel. The hotel address can be found below. If you do not see a cab stand nearby, enter the nearest hotel and ask the concierge to call you a cab. Upon arrival at the hotel please call your tour manager and let them know that you have returned to the hotel.

You Lose Your Phone, Wallet or Passport

Nine times out of ten, this can be prevented. Theft is not uncommon in Rome, so remember to keep your valuables as protected as possible. Fanny packs under the shirt are ideal. If you use a purse or backpack, hold it in front especially in crowds. Be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye on those around you as well. If you do lose your phone, wallet or passport, inform your tour manager immediately. We will then inform the local authorities and say a prayer to St. Anthony! The US embassy in Rome can turn around new passports within a few hours, but expect a hefty fee – 500 euro!

You Get Injured

Again, nine times out of ten we can prevent personal injuries by following rules and guidelines that are put in place. That includes never standing while the bus is moving, only crossing the street at crosswalks, and wearing sturdy walking shoes and keeping your eyes on the road. If you do experience an injury, inform your tour manager immediately. If necessary, we will arrange emergency transportation to the nearest hospital for care.

Dehydration and Fatigue

It is crucially important to begin hydration at least three days prior to departure, and to increase your electrolyte intake as well. Touring in autumn can be deceiving, because while you may not feel thirsty in 60 degree weather, your body will nonetheless require lots of water. Always carry a water bottle with you. If you do experience dizziness, a fever or sudden fatigue, notify your tour manager immediately and sit still. If necessary, we will arrange emergency transportation to the nearest hospital for care.
