World Youth Day comes to Seoul from <strong>3 to 8 August 2027</strong> — only the second time it has been held in Asia, and the first in a country where Christianity is a minority faith. The Archdiocese of Seoul expects between seven hundred thousand and a million pilgrims, around three hundred thousand of them from overseas.
The theme is <em>Take courage, I have overcome the world</em> (John 16:33), and the patrons announced for the week include St. John Paul II, who began World Youth Day, and St. Andrew Kim Taegon and his companion martyrs — Korea’s own.
That last name is the reason Seoul is a better host than it might first appear. The Korean Church was founded by laypeople who read their way into the faith from books before any missionary arrived, held it through persecutions that produced ten thousand martyrs, and grew. Your group will be walking that ground while they are there.

World Youth Day is the anchor, and Korea is worth more than the week itself. Groups regularly add the martyrdom sites before or after, or fly on to Japan for Nagasaki and the Hidden Christians.

This is a starting point, not a package. Some groups do the official week alone; others add a week in Japan for Nagasaki and the Hidden Christians, which is a short flight and a natural pairing.

Where you stay
Religious guesthouses. World Youth Day lodging is allocated centrally and is usually simple — school halls, parish centres, floors. Days in the Dioceses is often a host family. Groups wanting hotels for the days on either side should say so early.
Four-star hotels. More space, more amenities, and the option most parish groups choose.
Five-star. For groups who want it, we build it — and we will tell you honestly what it adds and what it does not.
The choice is yours on every pilgrimage, and it moves the price more than any other decision.
When to go
The dates are fixed: 3 to 8 August 2027, with Days in the Dioceses in the preceding days.
Seoul in August is hot and humid, and the vigil is outdoors overnight. We brief groups thoroughly on what to bring.
Arrive early or stay late — the martyrdom sites in the quiet after the closing Mass are, for many groups, the better half of the trip.
Airfare to Asia in August is the peak of the peak. This is the strongest argument we know for launching a pilgrimage land-only and adding air when it opens.
What Sets Us Apart
Your guide is a missionary, not a tour guide

When and where is the next World Youth Day?
Seoul, South Korea, from 3 to 8 August 2027, with Days in the Dioceses in the days beforehand. It is only the second World Youth Day held in Asia — the last was Manila in 1995 — and the first in a country where Christianity is a minority faith. The theme is “Take courage, I have overcome the world.”
How many people will be there?
The Archdiocese of Seoul expects between seven hundred thousand and a million pilgrims, roughly three hundred thousand of them from overseas. Around thirty thousand volunteers and more than two hundred parishes are being mobilised for it.
What are Days in the Dioceses?
The days before the main event, when international groups are hosted by Korean parishes outside the capital — often staying with families, joining local Masses and meeting the Church that is receiving you. Groups consistently tell us this is the part they remember most personally, and we place your group as part of the pilgrimage.
What is the lodging like?
For the official week, simple and allocated centrally — school halls, parish centres, and floors. That is part of what World Youth Day is. For the days before and after we can arrange whatever standard your group wants, and we recommend a real bed on at least one end of it.
Should we add the Korean martyrdom sites?
We think so. The Korean Church was founded by laypeople who read their way into the faith before a missionary ever arrived, then held it through persecutions that produced ten thousand martyrs. Jeoldusan above the Han River, Jeondong Cathedral at Jeonju, and the birthplace and tomb of St. Andrew Kim Taegon are all within reach — and the quiet after the closing Mass is the right time to see them.
Can we combine it with Japan?
Yes, and it is a short flight. Nagasaki and the Hidden Christians pair naturally with the Korean martyrs, and groups already travelling this far often make it a two-country pilgrimage of two weeks or more.
How much does World Youth Day cost?
Student groups typically run $3,000 to $3,500 per pilgrim and adult groups $3,800 to $4,500, land only and all-inclusive on the ground. Airfare to Asia in early August is the peak of the peak, which is the strongest argument we know for launching land-only and adding air when fares open.
How far in advance should we start?
As early as you can. Registration allocations, Days in the Dioceses placement and August long-haul airfare all reward a long runway, and diocesan groups in particular need time to recruit and collect payments.
How does airfare work?
Airlines do not release group fares until roughly eleven months before your return date, so airfare is quoted separately from the land price. That gives you two ways to launch. You can launch land-only now, start registering pilgrims at the land price, and add airfare once it opens — the usual choice when a group wants a long recruiting window. Or you can wait until the eleven-month mark, let us contract the air, and launch one all-inclusive price, which is simpler for pilgrims but shortens the time you have to fill the trip.
